The tomb of Atuan:2014年3月読了

Earthsea四部作が一冊で読める点はお得だが、一部一冊のRoC出版？では存在していた扉絵や細かい地図がまるっと無くなっていて残念かつ不便である。

どうでもいいが二作目について、原語版では途中までRingが腕輪であることがわからなかった(指輪かもしれないしただの輪っかかもしれないっていう)のに対し、日本語版ではタイトル(「こわれた腕環」)ですでにわかってしまうのが面白い。

大好きなゲド戦記。1〜4巻。
わたしにはちょっと、文法が難しい。
でも10ヶ月掛かってなんとか読み終わった！(4巻だけ1日で読んだけど)
素直に面白いのは1、2巻かな。3巻は王子の反抗期に読んでてイライラしてしまった笑
4巻はファンタジーって感じではない。大人向けの話

偉大な魔法使いゲドとアースシーの一大ストーリー。子供の頃には1〜３巻までしかなかったんですが、ずっとお気に入りで、なんども読み返してきました。1990年代終わりに第4作が書かれ、最終的には5巻と短篇集が21世紀になって書かれて、そこで完結したようです。

このペーパーバックは初期三部作プラス1作が一冊になっていて、おトクです。

4作目は20年を経てかかれているだけあって、手触りが違いますが、それでも十分好ましい。

ル＝グウィンの英語は平易で美しく、原書でも読みやすいです。高校生ならなんとか読めるんじゃないでしょうか。

Vol.1...Young Ged becoming a mage. Struggle against shadow.
Master Ogion and best friend Vetch, great characters.
Vol.2...Story of Arha.
Priestess Arha saves Ged at the labyrinth. Arha's life changes as she escapes from the wrecked Atuan with Ged.
Vol.3...Lebannen.
Young prince Lebannen travels with mid-aged Ged to see the world. Lebannen's grow-up story. Final battle at the Farthest Shore. Close-up of the great Dragon, Kalessin.
Vol.4...Arha (Tenar), Therru and Ged.
Mid-aged Tenar adopts a hurt child, Therru. Ogion is dead and Ged comes back worn out, magicless, as an ordinary man. Tenar and Ged are meant to be together, while Kelassin, again, appears as a symbolic figure. Grand, gentle and magnificent fantasy. (07-02-10)

儀式の描写、「名前」「影」「性」のテーマなど、人類学、心理学的な関心からファンタジーの領域へアプローチした作品、と言えると思う。立派な邦訳もあるが、図書館で借りて読んでしまって手元になかったので、原書で再読。読書なら、ゲドの過ごす時間をゆっくり実感できるのが良い（『ゲド、戦いのはじまり』というテレビ作品は、ほとんど原作に対する冒涜）。テナーとテルーを始め、総じて女性キャラクターのほうに、活き活きとした魅力を感じた（ジブリ版は観ていないけど、宣伝で見かけたテルーはかわいらし過ぎでは？）。
