この時代設定でSFってピンと来なかったから、衝撃的だった。

正義と悪が明確にわかれているものでもなく、感情の共有をかきたてるものでもないという、今まで触れたことのなかったストーリー展開でとても面白かった。

ぜひ原作も読みたい。

それほど好きだったわけではありませんでした。
が･･･
時間がある方はぜひ読んでみてください!視覚や聴覚といった一般的に文学にて語られる感覚ではなく、人間の嗅覚に焦点をあてた作品です。そのアイディアはとてもおもしろいなぁ〜と単純におもいました。

This was a bestseller in the mid-80s.
It's not really a particularly likeable book, but horribly compelling.
It is 18th century Paris. The main character Jean-Baptiste Grenouille has no smell of his own, but has this ability to recognise any scent. He sets out to become the greatest perfumier ever, and murders people to possess their scent.
The way Suskind paints word pictures of scents is amazing.
