一家四人を惨殺した犯人二人と、犯罪の舞台となったカンザス州の小さな街の人々を追った実在の事件のルポルタージュ。"Breakfast at Tiffany's"と全く違うライティングスタイルで、同じ作者が書いたとは俄かに信じ難い。緻密な情景描写で物事が酷くリアルに描かれている反面、熟考の末に決められたであろう巧みな物語構成と登場人物達の容赦のない心理描写には強く訴えかけるものがある。

Undoubtedly very well written non fiction. Worth reading. However not super clear to me why the author was so into this tragedy. Some sort of empathy might be there especially with Perry Smith? Occasional beautifully put scenes like ending chapter reminisce the skill of Capote's mastery. But sometimes these could be seen as out of place.
