1. 主人公Salamancaの話（現在・祖父母とIdahoへ車で向かう）
2. 友人Phoebe の話（過去・1.の中でSalが祖父母に語って聞かせる）
3. 母Sugarの話（2.よりさらに過去・1.および2.の中でSalが回想する）

という3つがごちゃ混ぜなので、最初の方は何が起きてるのか、いつの話なのか、何でこうなったのか、が良くわからないところがあったが、1章が短いのでさくさく読めた。そのうち概要が分かり始めた。

ばらばらに見えた1〜3が、Holesのように最後には見事に絡み合う…のかと思ったがそうでもなかった。2は2、3は3の中で完結しているし、Salは2,3の結末を全て知った上で語っているのに、読者をミスリード(?)する不親切な語り手だ。

2,3のなかでSalが他者の立場に立って（in his/her moccasins）考えたことによって、ラストの心の整理につながってるってのは分かるんだけど、いまいち消化不良に感じてしまう。

Salの母方がインディアンであることとか、あんまり意味なかったし（walk two moonsみたいなインディアン語彙や、道中インディアンに関わる史跡が出てくるくらいでは？あと、母の家出の遠因なのかもしれない、とも思ったけど、無くても違和感ないし）、1.の結末として祖母を死なせるのも必要性を感じなかった。祖父母との道中の楽しさが、暗く重い物語（語り口は軽妙だとしても）を読み進めるモチベーションになってたので、なんでその結末？と思ってしまった。

あと、Benとの交流の描写があんまりないので、いきなりベタベタとボディタッチしてくるキモいやつ、みたいな印象になってしまい、その後の恋愛描写にも違和感しか感じなかった。

A couple of days ago I finished my 32th book for this year in English with my Kindle. It's my first e-book. When I started reading the e-book, I was not used to it and I felt uncomfortable. However, when I finished reading it, I came like to it. Now, I'm really enjoying reading e-books with my Kindle. I think the Kindle is one of the best device for English learners!

As going back to the book, I like the story. Even though I read a children book, the content was very complex and I enjoyed it. The main character, Sal's mother left her. Her grandparents and she started going a travel to look for the reason why she left her and her dad. In the book her friend, Phoebe's mom also left her and her family and Sal and Phoebe learned lots of things and got more mature. In the middle of the trip Sal lost her grandmother. Through a lot of experiences after losing her mom, Sal became more mature. Reading her growing progress was very fun for me.
