ケンブリッジ・イングリッシュリーダーズ level2、46ページ。敵兵に家族も村も奪われた寄る辺ない男の子が、死んだ兄の友人と出会い自分のアイデンティティを再獲得して、少年兵になる物語。アイデンティティは、もとの自分でなくてもよかったのだ。イギリスに住む異国人でよかった。でも彼はこの国で生きるしかない。

たまたま日本に生まれ、戦争のない時代を生きている幸運。戦力は持ちながらも、外交の駆け引きを尽くして戦争だけは絶対に避けてほしい。

簡単な英語でこの内容！と中身の深さに驚くとともに、憎しみの連鎖とはこのことだ、と考えせられて、読み終わったあと、う～んとうなってしまいました。
