Pearson English Readers Level 5, the second highest among 7 categories divided based on vocabularies, sentence structures, and grammar level. Nine short stories, written by well-known writers, are included, most of which I enjoyed reading, except one.

Reading short stories in simplified texts is really good training for English learners. While reading, you put yourself in the setting offered in the story. You learn to follow the flow of events and changes of mood and feelings of the people in the story. In other words, you learn to immerse yourself in it. You do that all the time when you read novels in your mother tongue. But when you read in a foreign language, too much focus is put on understanding the meanings of each word or sentence and it hinders you from experiencing this immersion and, eventually, the joy of reading. Reading simplified versions enables you to enjoy the essence the original version has, getting rid of unnecessary struggles involved in “understanding” .
