分量として読みやすそうだったので購入。開発経済学の『Factfulness』といったところ。ただ『Factfulness』と違うのは、単なるデータだけでなく調査の中で集められた様々なエピソードだ。エピソードとデータを紐解くことで、貧困の本質が見える。その本質は『知らないこと』だ。貧困層は正しい情報を手に入れにくく、たとえ入れたとしても今まで培った思い込みを捨て去れない。そして政府もそれを知ってか知らずか、杜撰な医療や教育の体制を敷いている。程度は差はあれど、『知らないこと』を放置することは、自分を貧困に押しやる大きな要因になる。面倒臭がらずに、論理的に納得出来るまで疑問に思ったことは調べる。これを習慣化することで、随分と自分の視野はクリアになるのかと推測している。

発展途上国の貧乏な人たちの生活を向上させるにはどうしたらいいかについて、公平な観点から、現実的な解決策を提供していた。当たり前な話だが、特効薬はないのである。
