  • 細かく章に分かれていたのでとても読みやすかった。
    外国人の参政権についての問題や、在日朝鮮人、中国人の問題については今後考えていかなければならないと思った。

The book is a compilation of short papers of 8 researches, whose standings toward Immigration Policy in Japan can be very different among themselves.

There has been a long discussion on whether we Japanese accept more immigrants or not. One group argues that since Japanese population is diminishing very rapidly, there needs more people.
(The rate of child birth is by far smaller than the rate of death). The other group argues that, with high unemployment rate, internal re-structuring among Japanese workforce would bring a better solution, and unwilling to accept immigrants.

Basically Japan doesn't accept any non-Japanese as a permeant resident or an immigrant. Non-Japanese workers in Japan can be categorized into 4 types; 1) Those who have work permit (who can only work in specific areas they are allowed to work in), 2) Descendants of Japanese emigrants (who have no restrictions on area they work in. In this sense they are the same as Japanese), 3) Those who came to Japan and got special permit to work (mostly part-time job) after it, and 4) Illegal workers.

The essays in the book bring the fact to light that many non-Japanese works (should be nearly 1 million now), be they legal or illegal, are already living and working in Japan, and many of them are suffering from bad working conditions, exploitation of Japanese companies, and violation of human rights. The book employs a lot of statistics and court judgments in showing how non-Japanese (even Americans) are treated differently in the society.

Among those arguments, one essays showed one statistical finding that one community which had a closer contacts with ethnic group showed more acceptance to accommodate ethnic people than a community which had lesser contacts.

Imagined figure and real figure are often different. When you come to know a stranger, most of the times he turned out to be a good man.

Little real contact and just growing wrong imagination is causing many problems around the world.

  • 移民政策について肯定的な立場で書かれた本。他文化共生はいいことだという前提の上で成立する論理に思える。
