    The concepts presented in the book are not so difficult but the style and rhetoric makes a bit hard to read with a rapid speed (which I did not like)

    The author argues that the technologies have been trying to overcome the inherent barriers of human being who lives “Now and Here”. By separating Now and Here from real living, men could standardize time and space and made them void so that men could be freed from locality and tradition for future development.

    Modern transportation systems in which men can travel from one place to another without really involving the spaces in between, and communication media with which men can skip the distance and stop to exit in the place they are now and connected to another men in similar situation, helped men to be separated from “earth” and “the dead” (who would be the majority as others we get influence from). We no longer need to share Now and Here on the same horizon of earth and time.

    Information and Image produced from the world separated from “earth” and “the dead” become also separated from a certain Space and Time and begin to float about and form a common perspective among people. They are fragmented and have no rich history nor tradition. People are also separated from Space and Time and they get absorb such Information and Image.

    Here men tend to lose a sight of our interactions and relations between men and environment. The ways of men's having relationship are interwoven in Space and Time (we tend to lose) and we need to have Here and Now in a ubiquitous computing society which will cut of many important aspects of Space and Time.

    Information and Media society will not produce something new which will replace with present society but only create a new domain to be add to the present society.

    The author concludes the book saying that men can never overcome the limitation of Space and Time no matter how hard men try with Information technologies. We are confined to our bodies but can partially overcome the limitation with using various communication media and make relationships with others, living or dead. Men can be only heterogeneous and ambiguous existence and cannot be dealt with as proponents of a ubiquitous computing society can dream of.

    The most interesting phase in the book was “Amazon shows recommended books which will open new possibilities you cannot even imagine. But at the same time, you are forgetting the fact that there could be another future”.

    I prefer to make my own decision by myself even when it turns out to be sub-optimal.
