At the very first part, Nick describes Gatsby as a man who represents everything for which he has unaffected scorn. Gatsby takes interest in almost only Daisy; he made a fortune from unlawful business to win her heart by being rich, and behaved selfishly to make her left her husband against her will. Then, why the author titled "the Great Gatsby?" Is it an irony for Gatsby?
It is generally said that the main characters, Nick and Gatsby, are other self of the author. Gatsby represents the author's youth (he has an experience like Gatsby), and I think he may want to praise Gatsby's utmost effort to get back a woman's love even though it seems foolish.
I could not enjoy reading because I could not sympathize with anyone in this story and almost everyone loses something, becomes unhappy. But I read it interestedly through imaging then trend and learning the author's experience.
