[ Abstract ]
白うさぎ一家の中に一匹だけ、茶色の斑点のあるうさぎが生まれました。Spottyと名付けられたそのうさぎを他のうさぎと変わらず愛する母でしたが、おばさんはSpottyを受け入れようとしません。おじいさんの誕生日会にはおばさんの反対もあり、Spottyは一人で留守番することになります。
自分の斑点のせいで家族に受け入れられないと感じたSpottyは置き手紙を残して旅に出ます。その旅先で同じような斑点うさぎの家族に出会い、彼らの交流を通して、再び自分の家族と再会を果たします。Spottyの経験を通して家族全員が差別について、また絆について学んでいきます。
[ Review ]
Spotty was first published in 1945 right after world war II and renewed in 1975. When I read this book, I felt the strong message that Margret Rey wanted to tell the world. No one should be discriminated by his or her appearance (color of skin etc…). In the 21st century, I believe that this message is still as strong and important as it was when the book was first published. We tend to judge things by their appearance, but it is more important for us to know what’s inside them.
