相当つらい結末だった。
最後の章は、涙でなかなか読み進められないほど。
Johnnyがどれほど悲痛な想いで決行したのか、考えると苦しくて泣けてきた。
SarahがJohnnyの昏睡の間に結婚して子どもまでもうけて、、それだけでも辛いのに、再会して一度きり結ばれた後なのに2人目の子どもができちゃったときは、想いは5年前のままなのに、一人置いて行かれたJohnnyに感情移入してしまって（Johnny自身が淡々と振舞っているだけに）辛かった。
Sarahの方も本当に好きな人と結婚したかったんじゃないかなぁ…と、最後のJohnnyのお墓で "Not fair!" と泣きながら叫ぶところで思った。涙ぼろぼろだった。
p. 27 カインがノドの地に追放されて結婚した…父母が最初の人間のはずなのに？っていう疑問は向こうの人も持つんだ…
p. 120 that's where we are now.
はっ、これって「←今ココ」ってことでは。
p. 153 "This is a convalescent patient!"
詰め掛けた記者たちにJohnnyが話そうとしたが、記者たちが殺到しDr. Weizak が注意する。
p. 216 "Well, I could have gotten it from the phone company, I suppose, it being police business."
おお、現在分詞構文。
p. 299 The town police, augmented by a small contingent of State Police, had closed off the streets leading to the Trimbull town park.
augment は覚えてた。
値段がどんどん増えてくのがauction、動詞に付加的な意味を付け加えるのが、助動詞 auxiliary verb。

"You sure wasn't. " Bass said vehemently.
vehemently
p. 304 His eyes went wide, and then they filled with--fright? No. It was /terror/ in Stilson's eyes.
JohnnyがStillsonと握手をして「読み取り」をしたとき。
fright より terror の方が強いのか…。
p. 344 "Somersworth fire chief Milton Hovey said that a final tally of the dead will probably not be known until early morning."
Cathy'sが落雷による火事で焼け落ちたことを報じるラジオニュース。すごく辛い場面…。
tallyはJapan Times Weeklyを読んでた時に何度か見た。
