インドに生まれ、8歳までムンバイで過ごしたあと、家族とともにウガンダに移住。14歳でインドに戻り、ボンベイ大学で学士号、プーナ大学で哲学の修士号を取得。米国に渡ってラトガース大学で博士号を取得した。現在はニューヨーク州にあるヴァッサー・カレッジの哲学科教授として社会・政治哲学やフェミニスト理論を教えている。本書のほか、Having and Raising Children: Unconventional Families, Hard Choices, and the Social Good, edited by Uma Narayan and Julia J.
