Under the global trends on increased focus on the human capital, I read this book to find out the background theories behind human development indicators of the UNDP, which I think critically link to the treatment of the human capital in the society not only in the business world. The author carefully describes the logics of social-economic development, and rules, ethics, and institutions that consist our society and affect the developmental outcomes. I still doubt the effectiveness of rationalistic conceptualization to observe human behaviors that I can see in this book but the proposal of this book that opportunities and processes approaches also matter enlightened me.
