11歳になった少年ダニエルは父親に「忘れられた本の墓地」という秘密の図書館に連れて行かれる。そこで"the shodow of the wind"という本を選ぶのだが、その作者のことを調べようとすると、少年のまわりで不思議なことが起きはじめる。
the shodow of the windの作者、カラクスの過去と少年の未来が次第に近づき、やがて一点で交わる･･･。

ミステリー的な要素もあり、また少年とカラクスの不思議な友情あり、不思議な小説でした。
読後感が爽やかでよかったです。

This is a translation from the Spanish so I needn't actually have bought it in English, but anyway.
It's georgeously weird, with lots of strange characters. The mystery is a little thin and the main protagonist is a bit of a cypher, but Zafon makes up for it with over the top language and lashings of gothic atmosphere. You may be disappointed if you're expecting the next Gabriel Garcia Marquez or even the next Stephen King; it's really quite a cheesy trash novel, but a uniquely satisfying one.
