　This book may look like a simple and simplistic bi-lingual primer for businessmen about differences between practices and expectations in Japan and Euro-America, but it is a lot more than that. The author’s explanations of culturally bewildering behaviour and attitudes are far from simplistic; they are given for the most part in considerable detail and express the culturally ‘common-sense’ understanding of situations from both Japanese and ‘Western’perspectives. This book should be compulsory reading for anyone intending to be active in business and internationally-framed projects, for Japan and Japanese are almost always involved, so there is always potential for the sorts of misunderstandings analysed here. The parallel Eng-J text is very helpful for our 1st year students.
