「ビジネスのグローバル化に伴い、ノンネイティブの英語が増えてくると、Plain English が求められる。シンプルで曖昧さを残さず、はっきりと伝わる英語を話すことが大切となるからだ」。このような趣旨から、本書が執筆されている。
本書で紹介されている英文が、日本人にとって「分かりやすい」という訳ではないが、「こんな言い方ができるんだ」と目から鱗が落ちるようは表現も少なくない。
紙幅が許せば、単発での英語表現の紹介ではなく、その文章が使われる状況がわかるような一連の会話の中で紹介されていると、それぞれの英文のイメージやニュアンスがより具体的に伝わって、よかったと思うのだが・・・。

I sometimes feel frustrated, but it's fulfilling.
I'd like to ask each party to fulfill its obligations.
Stress at work may account for [contribute to; be attributed to] his illness.
Our business is gaining [gathering] momentum.
We finally turned the corner five year after the 2008 economic shock.
